USA Archery Virtual Tournament Registration is Live!

Hi Archers and Families,

Registration for the USA Archery Q4 Virtual Tournament is now live!  Follow this link to register:  https://www.ArcheryEvents.com/event/6761

The cost is $10 per archer payable to Coach Woody in person.

There will be a single scoring event on Saturday, December 16, 2017 from 11:00-12:00pm.  Each archer is only allowed to score once.

Archers will shoot a standard tournament indoor round of 30 arrows (10 ends – 3 arrows each.)  Tie breakers will be determined by 10’s and if still tied by 9’s (X’s do not apply.)

All archers participating in the tournament must be registered members of a USA Archery JOAD, Collegiate, or Adult Archery Program Club.  This means that simply coming to Ohlone JOAD meeting on Saturdays is not a qualifying factor, you must go to USA Archery’s website, purchase a membership, and register as a member of Ohlone JOAD Club (if you have no other club affiliation.)

This is an indoor tournament shot at either 9m or 18m meters depending on your class and age.  Register early so that we can give your archer time to practice at the appropriate distance/target leading up to the tournament:

JOAD Club Changes

Hi Ohlone JOAD Families,

Thank you again for your ongoing support for the club.  The kids are all a joy to work with and have each shown significant improvement each time we keep score.  It feels great to not only provide them with an opportunity to have a good time, but to have conclusive proof that they are all learning new physical and mental skills along the way.

We have a couple important changes happening this month which are effective immediately:

  1. Coaching Reinforcement

You may have noticed that I had a few adults helping me manage the kids during the last 2 meetings.  Club membership and participation have grown significantly over the last few months, so I had a trial run with some experienced helpers.  The trial went very well and we have strong interest from folks in the Ohlone Archery family who want to support the JOAD program.  Moving forward, I am going to engage certified level 1 and 2 instructors to provide additional support every Saturday.  This will ensure that we maintain a safe environment and an ability to provide meaningful coaching to everyone across all skill levels.  These instructors are people that Nico and I have personally certified through the official USA Archery coaching certification process, spent a lot of time coaching or shooting with for fun, and are confident that they share the values I have created for the club.  These people have all offered to donate their time just like I do.

I will be present every time we shoot to lead the club and remain your contact point for questions or payments.  I will manage the curriculum and direct the instructors on how to group the kids by skill, ensure we all teach to the National Training System and

  1. Required Weekly Reservations

Do to the number of participants we are in danger of having more kids than lanes.  This has not happened yet since everyone does not show up every week, but it is a real possibility.  I do not want anyone to ever walk away unsatisfied because they were turned away or had to take turns shooting on a lane which cut their range time in half.  Rather than limit membership to the club, I have decided to require families to reserve a space for their child online for each Saturday meeting.

There are two ways to do this:

  1. Go directly to the Ohlone Archery “Punch Pass” reservation system: https://app.punchpass.com/org/542/classes

The link above takes you directly to the system – you can filter the calendar results and select Ohlone Joad Club as the only parameter. Scroll down to the Saturday/Date you are interested in.  You will see a listing for “Ohlone JOAD Club” along with the number of participant spaces available for that meeting.  Select that event, and then fill out the sign-up form using your child’s name.  This will secure their spot and send a confirmation email to you.

  1. Go to the “Punch Pass” reservation system via the Ohlone Archery website: http://www.ohlonearchery.com/

Follow the same instructions listed in option A once you get there.

The reservation system uses a rolling 30 day calendar.  You will be able to make reservations up to 3 weeks in advance.

Please let me know ASAP if you reserve a spot but later need to cancel – we may have someone waiting for an open spot.

If you ever have any trouble booking through either of these services, please contact me and I will ensure your space is reserved.

If you have any questions or comments about these changes please contact me any time.  You can reach me at ohlonejoadclub@gmail.com or directly at 510-206-8715.

Thank You,

Woody Walters

No JOAD Club 10/07/17

There will not be a JOAD Club shoot 10/07/17.

We will be back at it on Saturday 10/14/17 11:00 – 12:00pm per usual.

Coach Woody has availability Wednesday and Thursday for private lessons after school if anyone wants to ensure their young archer has a chance to shoot and work on technique.

Next Scoring Round is 8/26/17

Saturday, 8/26/17 the club will be holding our next scoring round.  Kids will shoot at 10 or 20 yards dependent on their current development level.  USA Archery pins will be awarded as earned.

Last month a bunch of pins were handed out.  We are anticipating another scoring round of personal bests.
